GREENWOOD, Ind.–The UH Hilo baseball team’s starting shortstop Casey Yamauchi has been named to CoSIDA’s 2022 Academic All-District Baseball Team.
Yamauchi, a junior from Hilo, Hawai’i, is one of 12 players named to the team from the NCAA Division II west region, which encompasses all teams from the Pacific West Conference, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Yamuachi is now eligible for Academic All-American consideration later this month. UH Hilo has only had two athletes receive CoSIDA All-America honors. One was former baseball player Phillip Steering, who received Third Team recognition and the other was women’s volleyball’s Bria Beale who was UH Hilo’s first First Team selection.
The 5-foot-9, 160-pounder currently leads the PacWest in batting average at .403 and in doubles (21). He ranks thirteenth in the country in the latter.
Yamauchi has a 3.70 grade point average in his double major of Kinesiology and Communications .He was one of four players from the PacWest chosen to the team. The CCAA had seven players honored, and the GNAC had one.
