Trio addition of Childs, Kenoi and Lee completes Leonard’s largest recruit class.
HILO, Hawai‘i — With the additions of two transfers and an additional incoming freshman, University of Hawai‘i at Hilo women’s volleyball head coach Chris Leonard announced the completion of his 2022 recruiting class with seven total newcomers set to arrive to the Big Island for what will be the fourth-year head coach’s largest class.
The Vulcans are returning 10 players after seven departures — five to graduation — from a season ago. Four of those returnees saw significant playing time during the 2021 campaign that resulted in a 17-7 overall record (14-6 PacWest) and a fourth-place Pacific West Conference finish.
A five-foot-10 middle blocker/outside hitter, Childs comes to the Big Island from Utah State University Eastern where she spent the last two seasons after graduating from Syracuse High School (Utah) in 2020.
“Kamryn is a super athletic and versatile player who has the ability to make a great impact at the net as an attacker and as a blocker,” Leonard said.
Childs played club for Utah Storm and also participated in track & field in high school where she was a 6A High Jump State Champion while also setting a new 6A state record.
The Utah-native intends to major in business.
