NAMPA, ID. – The Hawai’i Pacific University women’s soccer team fell to the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks 4-2 Tuesday afternoon at NNU Soccer Field.
The Sharks (0-2-1) battled back after a first-half deficit, but the Nighthawks (1-1-1) were able to get across two goals down the stretch.
NNU hopped out to a two-goal by the 35th minute before junior forward Caylie Uyema found the back of the net for the first goal of the season and narrowed the lead 2-1 before the half.
The Sharks were on the attack out of the intermission and managed to draw a penalty shot. Senior midfielder Kayli Ann Yoshioka was called on and buried one to tie things at 2-2. However, the Nighthawks answered within the minute to regain a 3-2 lead before scoring one final goal to put the game out of reach at 4-2.
Graduate goalkeeper Sophia Garrido had a game-high seven saves. Uyema and Yoshioka led the way for HPU in the scoring column both with unassisted goals.
The Sharks stick around for a matchup with Westminster College, with kickoff slated for 9:30 a.m. HT.
