HILO, Hawai’i – The Hawai’i Hilo women’s cross country team was tabbed to finish ninth in the 2022 PacWest Preseason Coaches Poll released Thursday morning.

It’s the same slot the Vulcans finished in at the 2021 PacWest Championships.

Biola was voted as the No. 1 team by just a mere point with Academy of Art right behind them at No. 2. The Cougars received five first-place votes for a 113-point total while the Urban Knights received four votes at the top spot with 112 total points.

Azusa Pacific was the only other school to receive first-place votes (two) as it was tabbed for a third-place finish.

Jamie Guerpo enters his 24th season as head coach of the program and will have six returners with three freshman-newcomers.

UH Hilo begins its season Sept. 3 at the Big Wave Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai’i at Manoa on O’ahu. The course will be at Kahuku Golf Course on the north shore.

Pacific West Conference Championships will be Nov. 5 at the Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline Course in San Leandro, Calif.
