Aylett Wallwork Jr. received some of the most exciting news in his football career when he was appointed head football coach of his alma mater the Maui High School Sabers. He joins new MIL Baldwin coach Cody Nakamura for the upcoming football season.
Aspen, Aylett’s wife, and his children Madison 17, Emma, 12 and Olivia, 9 will be there for Wallwork when the 2022 season starts in August.
Curtis Lee retired as head coach after 21 years from the Sabers. Wallwork will be the schools ninth head coach.
Mike Ban, Maui High’s athletic director, informed Wallwork about the decision on Monday.
Wallwork was a graduate of Maui High in 1992. He then played his first season at UNLV, and two more seasons at UH, before he was injured. The injury ended his career.
On May 4th, Robert Dougherty announced that he would be moving to California to become the head football coach at Morro Bay High School, since then Wallwork has been acting as interim head coach for spring drills.
Wallwork stated that he would like to see it return to the run-heavy approach it had under Lee’s leadership.
Wallwork is a veteran of 22 years with the Maui Police Department, he is a detective. He has been on the Sabers coaching staff since 2016.
