TEMPE, Ariz. – Hawai’i Pacific University’s Jordi Walder and Robin Sanz earned Division II Men’s All-America honors this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Walder and Sanz were both honored in singles play. The ITA presents All-American honors to student-athletes that finish in the top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings and to doubles teams that finish in the top 10 of the final ITA doubles rankings.
Walder, a junior from Hagen, Germany, finished the season ranked No. 2 in Division II in singles. The transfer from Technische Universitat Dortmond, was 13-1 playing at No. 1 singles for the Sharks. The PacWest Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year was 10-1 against ranked competition and led the Sharks to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
Sanz, a sophomore from Iserlohn, Germany, finished the season ranked 18th in Division II in singles. He recorded a 15-3 record playing primarily No. 3 singles for HPU, where he posted a 13-2 mark. He was also 2-1 at No. 2. The second-team All-PacWest Conference singles and doubles star was 6-0 against ranked opponents.
Walder just missed earning All-America in doubles, ending with a No. 13 ranking with teammate Jan Pleva.
The Sharks finished the season ranked sixth in the ITA Division II rankings after posting an 18-3 overall record.
