TURLOCK, Calif.–The UH Hilo softball team worked back from behind to top Cal Poly Humboldt 9-5 at the Pedretti Sports Complex.
The Jacks scored first in the bottom of the first, but the Vulcans came back with three runs in the third inning to take the lead 3-1. Angel Prewitt and Jayda Favela singled to get the inning going for UHH. Brandee Chinen then smacked her first collegiate home run over left to give the Red and Black the two-run lead.
UH Hilo held Humboldt the next half inning and tacked on another insurance run. Chloe began the fourth with a triple and ended up scoring off a Humboldt throwing error (4-1).
Humboldt closed the gap in the bottom of the fourth, making it a one-run ball game (4-3), but the Vulcans had a huge fifth inning that separated them from the Jacks.
UHH scored five runs off of four hits and two Humboldt errors. Chinen and Skylar Thomas began the inning with back-to-back singles. Domingo scored the first run of the inning with a base knock through the left side (5-3). The Vulcans scored two more runs off of walks and the final run was scored by an Angel Prewitt single (9-3).
Humboldt would score two more runs in the bottom of the seventh before the Vulcans would solidify their 9-5 victory.
Malia Risdall started the game in the circle and was relieved by Tehani Seto in the fourth inning. Seto let up four hits while retiring two Jacks in the Vulcans victory.
