HILO, Hawai’i–The UH Hilo softball team opened up their four-game PacWest Conference series against Academy of Art with a 12-run mercy.
UHH (15-17, 11-12 PacWest Conference) accumulated 13 hits against Academy of Art (6-32, 3-12 PacWest) in their 12-1 win at the UHH Softball Field.
Freshman Alexis Lacy threw three scoreless innings, giving up just three hits while her team put up nine runs for her on offense (9-0). Sara Bhatt and Makenna Goldbeck threw one inning a piece to close up the game 12-1 in the Vulcans favor.
UH Hilo left a first-inning impression scoring five runs off of four hits and two Urban Knight errors. Jayda Favela led off the inning with an infield base hit, followed by two-more singles by Brandee Chinen and Skylar Thomas (1-0).
An Urban Knight error scored the next run and a Nikki Zielinski single scored two more (4-0). Taisha Bratton was responsible for the Vulcans’ final run in the first, sending home Zielinski with a sacrifice fly (5-0).
The Red and Black proceeded to score runs in the second, third, and fourth innnings which solidified their 12-1 victory.
Several Vulcans were 500 and above including: Favela (2-3), Thomas (3-4), Zielinski (2-3), Bratton (1-1), and Angel Prewitt (3-3).
