AZUSA, Calif. – The Hawaii Pacific University volleyball team fell 3-0 to Azusa Pacific on Thursday afternoon at the Felix Event Center.
The Sharks (0-12, 0-6) started slowly against the Cougars (8-7, 4-2), but when they found their groove, it was too late.
Azusa jumped to an early 12-point lead halfway through the first set, which would be too much to surmount as the Sharks dropped the first set 25-12.
HPU started to turn things around in the second set, keeping things within three points at the midway mark before the Cougars inched away to close out set two 25-19.
The Sharks looked to be swimming away with the third set, attacking a game-high .286 with 16 kills before dropping five points in a row in a 26-24 third-set defeat.
Graduate outside Riley Gill posted her first double-double of the season with a team-leading ten kills and 11 digs. Senior middle blocker Demi Winters added another nine kills hitting an efficient .263 on the afternoon. Sophomore setter Pua Beazley and graduate Maile Powell both earned double-figure assists.
The Sharks continue their road trip tomorrow against Concordia Irvine, set to begin at 4 p.m. HT.
