After the second round of Monday’s Big West Championship at the San Luis Obispo Country Club, the University of Hawai’i women’s golf team held its lead.
The Rainbow Wahine recorded a 298 to give it a 595 total, extending its lead over the Cal Poly Mustangs to five strokes. Cal Poly shot 302 to place second at 600, followed by the Long Beach State Beach at 603, UC Riverside Highlanders at 606, Cal State Fullerton Titans at 618, Cal State Northridge Matadors at 632, UC Davis Aggies at 633, UC Irvine Anteaters at 636, and Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners at 667.
The Rainbow Wahine are seeking their first Big West title.
Momo Sugiyama, a freshman, shot a 2-under 70. She is tied for fourth at 3 over 147.
Monica Johnson, the first-round leader, struggled with a round 80 in the second round and is now tied for seventh at 6-over 150.
Hyeonji Kang, a freshman, tallied a 73. Kang is now 5-over 149 and in sixth.
Rainbow Wahine Mayumi Umezu and Hana Mirnik are at 153, and tied for 13th
