The athletic department of the UH-Hilo Vulcans has ranked fifth in 2021-22’s first Pacific West Conference Commissioner’s Cup.
UH Hilo Vulcans were one of the 11 schools in the conference that took part in the Cup during this past fall sports season.
According to UH Hilo Athletics, The Vulcans strong Fall showing was led by the Vulcans women’s soccer team co-championship With Point Loma.
The Vulcans volleyball team placed fourth, the men’s soccer team finished seventh and the women’s cross country team came in ninth.
According to UH Hilo Athletics, the Vulcans’ fifth-place in this falls listing is The Vulcans highest for the past ten years.
This year’s fall season saw Azusa Pacific earn the first place with 12 points. Next came Biola 11.6 points, Point Loma 11.1 Points, Concordia 10.4 points and then UH Hilo coming in at 9.13 points.
The next six spots went to Fresno Pacific 7.7 points, Academy of Art 7.1 points, Hawaii Pacific 7.0 points, Chaminade 5.2 points, Dominican 4.8 points and Holy Names 3.1 points.
The Pacific West Conference Commissioner’s Cup ranks based on the PacWest’s average finish in all sports. The points of each school are added together and divided by how many PacWest athletic programs they offer, resulting in a school’s point average.
Only five of the 15 sports were awarded points in the fall season. This means that there are only 10 sports remaining until the final score for each school.
