Recently, the UH Hilo Vulcan women’s basketball team beat No. 5 Alaska Anchorage.
According to a press release, the Vulcans won in an exciting game. They defeated the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in overtime 76-73.
With an eight-game winning streak, the Seawolves entered this game undefeated. However, they now have a 8-1 record as the Vulcans ended that streak.
Josh Pacheco wrote in a Dec. 19 Twitter post. “Proud of this team. Shorthanded, undersized, but no excuses. They find ways to win. Big win for @HiloVulcans,”
The Seawolves led 36-30 at the half-way mark, but Jazzpher Evans was able to tie the game at 64-64 in the fourth quarter, with less than two minutes left.
Both teams played outstanding defense, keeping the game scoreless until overtime.
Both teams battled back and forth during overtime, until the Vulcan’s Kawaha sisters landed back-to-back shots for a lead of 76-73.
The Seawolves tried unsuccessfully to score a three-pointer with 13 seconds remaining and missed. The UH-Hilo Vulcans won the game 76-73.
On Monday, January 10, the Vulcans will be back in action against the University of Biola Eagles.
