IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University men’s golfer Ryan Shields Vega (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) on Tuesday was named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Golf Freshman of the Year as voted by the conference coaches.
The native Floridian completed his rookie collegiate season third on the Silverswords with a 79.32 scoring average. At the PacWest Championships in late April, Shields Vega was a co-leader after the first round with a 3-under-par 69 before finishing 15th. His first round score was just one shot off the school record for a single 18-hole round.
Hawai’i Pacific University’s Keita Okada, the 2022 PacWest champion, was the Men’s Golfer of the Year while Ed Kagayama was selected as Coach of the Year for guiding the Sharks to their first-ever conference championship.
