TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai’i Pacific women’s tennis team ended the season seventh in Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Women’s Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The Sharks (17-9) recorded a 16-5 Division II record, finishing the season in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. They posted a computer ranking of 53.144 for seventh, just ahead of NCAA quarterfinalist Flagler (Fla.) (18-8) in eighth at 52.991, but behind NCAA semifinalist Indianapolis (16-2) in sixth at 61.99.
The Sharks have three singles players and a doubles pair ranked nationally in this ranking. Shaline Pipa is ninth, while Marleen Tilgner dipped to 22nd and Elodie Busson moved up to 33rd. The duo of Pipa and Tilgner is 10th in the doubles rankings.
Barry (Fla.) (23-0), who won the National Championship for the fifth consecutive time, is at the top of the ranking. Nova Southeastern (Fla.) (21-4), a national semifinalist who beat HPU in the quarters, is second with 81.21 points, and NCAA Division II Runner-Up Central Oklahoma (23-2) is third with 65.127 points. National quarterfinalist Columbus State (Ga.) (19-6) is fourth with 64.918 points, while Saint Leo (Fla.) (19-4), who didn’t reach the round of 16, is fifth with 64.779 points. North Georgia (14-5) is ninth at 51.509 and Lynn (Fla.) is 10th at 50.519.
In addition to HPU, the PacWest is represented by Azusa Pacific at 14th, Biola at 20th, Point Loma at 27th, and Fresno Pacific at 33rd. In the expanded list to 75 teams, Academy of Art is 53rd.
