TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai’i Pacific women’s tennis team rebounded to 10th in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Women’s Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The Sharks (15-8) have a 14-4 Division II record and a computer ranking of 44.653 to rank 10th, just ahead of Flagler (N.C.) (13-6) in 11th at 44.635, but behind Cameron (Okla.) (16-2) in ninth at 48.365.
The Sharks have three singles players ranked nationally and a doubles pair. Shaline Pipa remained seventh, while Marleen Tilgner moved back up to 20th and Elodie Busson rejoined the rankings at 34th. The duo of Pipa and Tilgner moved up to ninth in the doubles rankings.
Defending national champion Barry (Fla.) (18-0) remains in the top spot with a 94.944 rating as the top six spots hold from last week. Nova Southeastern (Fla.) (17-3) second with 79.702 points, Saint Leo (Fla.) (18-3) third at 69.591, Central Oklahoma (16-1) fourth at 58.462, Lynn (Fla.) (11-5) fifth at 55.505, and Columbus State (Ga.) (15-5) sixth at 55.010. Queens Charlotte (N.C.) (15-1) moved up to seventh at 54.298, with North Georgia (13-3) dropping to eighth at 52.406.
In addition to HPU, the PacWest is represented by Azusa Pacific at 15th, Biola at 28th, Point Loma at 31st, and Fresno Pacific at 37th. In the expanded list to 75 teams, Academy of Art is 55th.
The No. 10 Sharks are idle until the NCAA Division II Championship bracket is announced on Tuesday, May 3. The West Regional match will be played on Friday, May 6. This is the last weekly ITA ranking until after the NCAA Tournament.
