GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Hawaii Pacific University women’s tennis team built upon their strong opening day at the ITA West Regional.
On the singles side of the tournament, senior Marleen Tilgner crushed the competition winning in straight sets in both of her matches. Tilgner faces off against seventh-seed Audrey Rofols in the semifinals.
Fellow senior Elodie Busson also found her way through to the semifinals, where the one-seed Eleonora Liga will challenge her. Busson battled in her first match of the day 4-6, 6-2, and won in the tie-breaker 10-6. In her second match of the day, Busson made easy work of the 11th seed 6-4, 6-3.
Graduate Mihoki Miyahara won her first match 6-1, 5-7, 10-1 to make the quarters, where she was sent to meet the one seed and fell in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
For the pairs today, Miyahara/Busson worked through Biola in a tight one coming out on top 8-7. In their semifinal matchup against Academy of Art, the duo handled them 8-4 to make the finals against one-seeded Azusa.
On the other side of the bracket, Tilgner/Wild defeated Colorado Mesa in the quarters 8-6. They were then matched up with tournament favorite Asuza, where the pair were bested 8-3.
Busson and Tilgner begin the day with their singles semifinals at 8:30 a.m. and the women’s doubles finals with Miyahara/Busson at 1 p.m.
