WAIPAHU – The Hawai’i Pacific University men’s soccer team, trampled Chaminade 4-0 Tuesday night at Waipio Soccer Complex.
The Sharks (2-2-2) continue to heat up with their second win in a row. The Silverswords (0-3) head to Hilo for one last non-conference matchup.
It was a day for pairs as the graduate midfielder got the ball rolling with the game’s first goal coming in the 29th minute, assisted by teammate Leandro Weingartner. About three minutes later, Dominic Toone found Arzberger in the middle of the box again for his second of the day and put the Sharks up 2-0. With time winding down in the first half again, Toone found another teammate Makana Srivongsana for the third HPU goal of the half.
With the game seemingly over in the first half, Hawai’i kept the pedal on the floor when Ethan Farrar beat a defender finding Srivongsana for his second goal and final goal of the game.
Junior goalkeeper Austin Matthews saw the pitch for the first time this season after graduate Jeremy Zielinski went down with an injury. Zielinksi collided with a Chaminade player chasing down a ball and, after about 10 minutes, was helped off the field and ruled out for the rest of the game. Matthews stepped in and delivered as he nabbed two saves in the victory.
The Sharks return to Waipio to face the Academy of Art following Monday beginning at 7 p.m. following the women’s matchup.
