SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Hawai’i women’s soccer team earned a hard-fought point on the road and picked up its second-straight shutout with a 0-0 draw against UC Santa Barbara in Big West action Thursday.
Reigning Big West Defensive Player of the Week Lauren Marquez finished with five saves to lead a Rainbow Wahine defense that posted a clean sheet for the second-straight match. UH has not allowed a goal in 219 consecutive minutes dating back to the Portland State match, while it’s the first time October 2019 that the ‘Bows have recorded back-to-back shutouts.
Each side had a quality chance to take the lead in the closing minutes of the match, but couldn’t break through. Amber Gilbert put a shot on frame in the 88th minute to give UH a corner kick opportunity, which Emily Cottrell played beautifully near the back post for Jacey Jicha, who had her shot attempt go just high.
