The Roosevelt Rough Riders baseball team utilized an opportunistic approach and never-say die approach to win against Moanalua and take the OIA East top spot.
In the sixth inning, the Rough Riders scored six runs. Amadeus Browning pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to win 7-5 over the Moanalua Na Menehune at Stevenson Middle School Field.
The Rough Riders trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Roosevelt sent 11 batters to plate, with the first six crossing home plate.
Three walks, two hit batters and two wild pitches, plus an error were all in favor of the Rough Riders. They had two hits, both singles, in the inning.
Roosevelt (4-1) tied it at 5-5 after Jeff Spurling scored on a wild pitch. The Rough Riders took the lead on Higa’s sacrifice fly to left field, which allowed Kaden Chun to score.
The final run was scored by Brayden Moy on a fielding error by the Na Menehune shortstop.
After entering in the fifth, Browning was down four and allowed three hits. He also allowed one walk and hit batter. Browning had two strikeouts.
The Moanalua Na Menehune (3-2), looked like it was in control with pitcher Koen Smith. He ended up walking seven batters and threw four wild pitches on 96 pitches.
