HONOLULU – The Hawai’i football team picked up its first win of the season and gave head coach Timmy Chang his first career victory, beating Duquesne 24-14 on Saturday night at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex.
The Rainbow Warriors (1-3) made a couple of big plays on special teams in the first half to build a lead, before forcing three turnovers at key moments in the second half to seal the win. UH earned the victory despite finishing with just 184 yards of total offense, while running 46 offensive plays and losing the time of possession battle 37:02-22:58.
After Duquesne got on the board first with a field goal on its opening drive, Hawai’i responded with a touchdown drive to jump in front. Jalen Perdue gave the ‘Bows great field position with a 58-yard kickoff return to set UH up at the Dukes’ 35-yard line. Six plays later, Dedrick Parson found the end zone from five yards out to make it 7-3, UH, with 4:20 left in the first quarter.
