PORTLAND, Ore. – The Hawai’i women’s soccer team kept unbeaten Portland off the board until the closing minutes of Sunday’s nonconference match, but surrendered a late goal in a 1-0 loss.
The Rainbow Wahine (2-2) fought off a steady barrage of chances for the Pilots all throughout the second half, but Cally Togiai finally broke through for Portland (4-0-2) with a goal in the 86th minute. Hawai’i was out-shot 24-5, including a 19-3 difference in the second half, while the Pilots also had 14 corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Lauren Marquez made a handful of stellar plays prior to the Togiai goal to keep the match scoreless. The fifth-year senior finished with a season-high four saves, including a pair of standout efforts in the 53rd and 71st minutes on shot attempts at the top of the net.
