IRVINE, CALIF. – The Big West Conference announced its All-Conference Honors this morning, with five Rainbow Warriors appearing on the list, including an athlete on the First Team for the fourth-straight season.
Starting pitcher Blaze Koali’i Pontes highlighted the five ‘Bows that earned postseason honor by being dubbed one of the best starting pitchers in the conference.
Pontes initially was in an out-of-the-bullpen role, but transitioned to the number one starter. He is one of three people to hold a conference ERA under 2.00 and is top five in four categories amongst pitchers (ERA, strikeouts, runs, and earned runs). As a starter, he had six of seven appearances go at least six innings, wherein four of those games, he only allowed one or fewer earned runs and held the team season-high with 12 strikeouts, ranking fourth-best in the conference.
