TEMPE, Ariz. – Hawai’i Pacific University’s Shaline Pipa and Marleen Tilgner were awarded Division II Women’s All-America honors this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Pipa earned All-America honors in singles and joined with Tilgner to take honors in doubles play. The ITA presents All-American honors to student-athletes that finish in the top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings and to doubles teams that finish in the top 10 of the final ITA doubles rankings.
Pipa, a freshman from Oldenburg, Germany, finished the season ranked ninth in singles. The PacWest Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year dominated singles competitions with a 17-1 record, 15-1 at the No. 1 spot. She was 8-1 against nationally ranked competition, but a late season injury kept her from playing singles in the Sharks final four matches.
Tilgner, a senior from Seevetal, Germany, an All-PacWest First-Team Singles and Doubles perfomer, teamed with Pipa to form HPU’s No. 1 doubles pair and finished the season ranked 10th in Division II. The duo posted a 14-2 record at No. 1, going 9-1 in their last 10 matches.
Tilgner just missed All-America honors in singles, finishing the year ranked No. 22 with a 16-3 record.
The Sharks finished the season ranked seventh by the ITA after going 17-9 overall and advancing to the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals.
