Pearl City Chargers Dacoda Agoto and Devin Hayashi, teammates, opened the state baseball tournament game after three years. They combined for a no-hitter and a 4-1 win over the Moanalua Na Menehune at Iron Maehara Stadium on Wednesday.
Chargers Agoto struck out 12 batters in six innings. Hayashi completed the win with two strikeouts, a pop fly to end the game. The Chargers (11-3), advanced to the quarterfinals today and face the Saint Louis Crusaders, the 2nd seed.
Before Na Menehune run, on a one out walk in the 4th, Agoto had retired the first 10 batters that he faced.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of sixth Agoto had thrown the limit of 110 pitches and recorded his 12th strikeout.
Agoto was replaced by Hayashi. Hayashi earned the save after a pop up to second baseman ended it.
The no-hitter combination was the first to in the state tournament since the Waiakea Warriors, Quintin Torres Costa and Kodi Meeiros in 2012’s state final. They beat the Baldwin Bears.
Pearl City (11-3), who finished second in the OIA tournament. The Chargers advances to play second seed Saint Louis Crusaders today at 4:30 p.m.
