WAIPAHU – The Hawaii Pacific University men’s soccer team pulled out a 1-0 victory against Academy of Art, Monday night at Waipio Soccer Complex.
The Sharks (3-2-2, 1-0) continue their hotstreak as they picked up their third win in a row, while ending the Urban Knights (3-4-1, 0-1) three win streak.
This game was more of a war than a battle as their were eight yellow cards issued, all in the second half.
It wasn’t until the late stages of the game when the Sharks were on the offensive when a blocked shot came back to graduate forward Austin Stafford who placed one in the top right of the goal and broke the tie that led to the eventual 1-0 victory.
Stafford has scored three goals in his last four contests and is tied for the teams top goal scorer. Graduate goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski was a solid return to the lineup after suffering an injury that took him out of the last contest. Zielinski recorded five saves on five shots faced.
The Sharks return on Thursday following the women’s matchup, where they face Dominican set to kickoff at 7 p.m. HT.
