HONOLULU—A familiar name has returned to the University of Hawai’i track and field program as Sabrina Mendoza was announced by director Tim Boyce as the new assistant coach, where she will be primarily responsible for the throwing events.
“Sabrina (Mendoza) knows our culture and is a proven leader from when she was captain for us,” said Boyce. “When she returned as a volunteer assistant, we saw first-hand what she’s capable of, and when we had the open position, we knew she would be a fit within our program.
Mendoza was previously enrolled in the Rainbow Wahine from 2013 to 2017 and served as a co-captain in her senior campaign. Mendoza competed in the shot put, discus, and hammer throws, finishing as high as fifth in the shot put at the Big West Outdoor Championships in 2017.
