Scott Reinhart’s smile says it all. Reinhart’s joy is due to the return of The Maui Open golf tournament. This event has not taken place since 2019, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but will, be played, at The Dunes at Maui Lani in the summer.
Reinhart, a PGA Director of Golf at The Dunes, is co-chairman of the Maui Open with Mike Morris (Maui YMCA director).
Shimomura is a graduate of Lahainaluna High school and University of Hawaii Hilo. He won the Maui Open the second time in 2019. He used the $5,000 winning check to take a shot at the Mackenzie Tour of PGA Tour Canada.
Alex Chiarella (a Seabury Hall alum and Korn Ferry Tour player) and Sam Cyr (a King Kekaulike graduate, who was a player on the Asian Tour), are both past winners of The Maui Open.
This event attracts top Maui amateurs, such as, Royden Haeirakuji and Jake Grodzinsky Seabury Hall’s golf coach, as well as a former Korn Ferry Tour player.
The event will take place August 6-8 and has received more than 20 entries already. It will have a total of 126 participants for professional, seniors (50-over), super seniors (60-over), and A flights.
