The Lahaina Swim Club came in second at the Hawaii Short Course Age Group State Swimming Championships this past February 24-27. The championships were held at Pahoa Community Center Pool, on the Big Island.
The Lahaina (LSC) team, who is coached by Tom Popdan, achieved its highest finish in a state competition. The LSC team of 19 members scored 1,648 points and finishing just behind Aloha State’s Kamehameha Swim Club.
He said that LSC relay teams were the key to this remarkable result. Top placements were achieved in 13 relay events. This was highlighted by the Boys 800-yard Freestyle gold medal and second place finishes at eight other races.
The boys 880 Free’s lineup included Eli Hazlet, Jake McGill as well as TJ Hehemann and Noah Caiserman.
To add to their points total, the 11-12 Boys Relay team of Tristan Richards, Levi Stoddart, Kaina Yamada and Cruz Storer earned silver medals in four relay events.
The LSC girls’ 11-12 team consisting of Emily Gorokhovsky, Halia Caiserman and Jersea Borneman as well as Abi Rogers, won silver medals in four relay races.
Gorokhovsky was a first-place finisher in the 100 Individual Medley and 200 Backstroke races. He took home five medals in events as well as relays.
Sacha Salem excelled in the 500, 1000 and 1,650 Free distance events. She won those events
Both girls were among the top five in individual top scorers at the meet.
Noah Caiserman, won gold medals at the 500 Free and 100 Back events. He also finished second in four other events. He also finished second in the individual overall points competition.
Noah Richard was the long-distance star and won the 1,650 Free and 1,000 Free races.
