Waverider, Mathew Enriques, a senior at Kealakehe, entered the semifinals of boys BIIF soccer against the Waiakea Warriors scoring a league-leading 22 goals. He was a target but an unstoppable target.
Enriques, who stands at 5’11”, scored two goals and the Waveriders beat the Warriors 5-2 to win a Division I state tournament berth. The Waveriders have not been in the tournament since 2017.
The Hilo Vikings beat the Keaau Cougars 9 to 0 at Hilo Bayfront in the other BIIF semifinal.
Kealakehe (7-2-1) plays Hilo (10-1), on Saturday for the BIIF championship. The game is at Kamehameha’s Paiea stadium at 7 p.m.
The season is over for both the Warriors (7-1-3) and the Cougars (0-11).
Waiakea and Kealakehe met in a 2-2 match on Jan. 29, at Yamase Stadium. Tevin Atwal, a junior forward, scored two goals for the Warriors. Shane Carroll and Enriquez scored for Waveriders.
