Chaminade University softball outfielder Malia Ka`akimaka-Moisa (Ewa Beach, O’ahu, Hawai’i) and men’s golfer Ryan Shields Vega (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) are the Hawai’i Pacific Health Silversword Female and Male Athletes of the Week for competition between April 18 and 24.
Ka’akimaka-Moisa hit .526 (10-for-19) with five runs and two RBI during the week as the Silverswords wrapped up their home slate. The fifth-year senior powered a sixth-inning go-ahead solo home run against Academy of Art in the team’s 4-3 win on April 18. She had a three-hit game against Hawai’i Pacific University on Senior Day and carries a six-game hitting streak heading into the ‘Swords’ regular season finale Saturday at Hawai’i Hilo.
Shields Vega was a surprise first round co-leader at the Pacific West Conference Men’s Golf Championships in Litchfield Park, Ariz., on April 18. The freshman shot a 3-under-par 69 was one of three atop the leaderboard after the first 18 holes and finished the championships with a team-low 232.
