Jenic Tumaneng is in his fifth season as the head volleyball coach at Hawai‘i Pacific University, being named to the permanent spot on Dec. 1, 2016 after leading the Sharks during the 2016 season as the interim head coach.
Tumaneng led the Sharks to a 19-11 overall mark, the best record since 2005 when HPU won the PacWest sporting a 24-3 mark. The 2019 Sharks posted a 15-7 PacWest record. The Sharks were led by D2CCA All-West Region second teamer senior Perla Escobar and fellow All-PacWest First Team selection junior Cameryn Collie, both at outside hitter. Sophomore middle blocker Kirah Boynton-Brown chosen to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, with a 3.95 grade point average in Biology.
The 2018 Sharks finished 13-15 overall, 12-10 in the PacWest as paced by senior middle blocker Carson Pyle and sophomore outside hitter Collie who were named to the All-PacWest squad.
Tumaneng led HPU to a 17-12 overall record and a 13-7 record with a third place finish in the PacWest Conference in 2016. It was the best PacWest finish for HPU in six seasons. However, an injury-plagued season saw the Sharks fall to 7-21 overall in 2017, 5-15 in the PacWest.
