TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai’i Pacific University women’s and men’s tennis teams were recognized for their academic prowess on with as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its academic honors recently.
The HPU women were honored as a 2021-22 ITA All-Academic Team, while eight Sharks women and four men were named as 2022 ITA Scholar-Athletes
The women’s tennis team led the entire HPU Athletic Department for the 2021-22 academic year with a 3.724 cumulative grade point average for the year.
The HPU women are a part of the 185 Division II women’s and men’s teams to win the award.
The HPU women tallied eight members of the ITA Scholar-Athlete Team. Elodie Busson, Olivia Kjaer, Mihoki Miyahara, Valentina Mokrova, Rikona Murakami, Shaline Pipa, Marta Ruszczynska and Marleen Tilgner were among the 715 Division II student-athletes honored in 2021-22.
The HPU men featured four ITA Scholar-Athletes. Jordi Walder, Jakub Beran, Jan Heine, and Benjamin Loccisano joined the group of Division II men that totaled 545.
Student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be on the institutional eligibility form to be named to an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
To be included as an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.00 scale), with all student-athletes included on the institutional eligibility form and all varsity letter winners factored into the cumulative GPA for the current academic year.
