TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai’i Pacific University men’s tennis team held firm to fourth in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Men’s Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The Sharks (16-2) have played an all Division II slate this year and hold a 64.804 rating in fourth behind two teams they have beaten this season, Barry (Fla.) (16-5) in second at 79.847 and Saint Leo (Fla.) (18-5) in third at 72.813. Columbus State (Ga.) (15-2) remains at the top with an 81.085 ranking.
HPU continues to have two singles players and one doubles team ranked nationally this week. Jordi Walder continues as number two nationally in singles, with Robin Sanz down slightly to No. 29. The pair of Jan Pleva and Walder are eighth in doubles.
Embry-Riddle (Fla.) (12-4) is fifth at 61.708, with Flagler (Fla.) (14-3) sixth at 56.638, North Georgia (13-5) seventh at 54.110, Valdosta State (Ga.) (12-4) eighth at 52.177, Lynn (Fla.) (9-4)
In addition to HPU, the PacWest Conference is represented in the poll by Azusa Pacific at 14, Hawai’i Hilo at 41 and Biola at 46. In the extended rankings, Point Loma is 60, Metro State Denver is 63, and Concordia Irvine is 65.
The No. 4 Sharks are idle until the NCAA Division II Championship bracket is announced on Tuesday, May 3. The West Regional match will be played on Monday, May 9. This is the last weekly ITA ranking until after the NCAA Tournament.
