IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University outside hitter Greta Corti (Varese, Italy/Univ. of San Francisco/Alessandro Manzoni Liceo HS) has been named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week while the Silverswords as a whole were named the Team of the Week for competition between Sept. 27 and Oct. 3.
Corti totaled 38 kills (3.45 per set) and 48 digs (4.36 average) last week while hitting for a .303 percentage during their matches against Concordia University Irvine, Point Loma and Azusa Pacific. She recorded consecutive double-doubles towards the backend of the trip and in their road finale at Azusa Pacific on Saturday, had season-highs of 18 kills and 18 digs.
Corti is quietly putting together another solid campaign with 2.44 kills and 3.11 digs averages, both of which are second on the team. Her 32 service aces and 0.46 per set averages are second in the PacWest.
For the conference’s team award, the Silverswords were an unprecedented 4-0 mark in their Southern California road trip, becoming just the second team – and the first outside of the conference’s SoCal pod – to win all four in the region, which is considered the PacWest’s power area.
The ‘Swords are 13-6 on the season and the PacWest leader at 8-0 with a 10-match winning streak, the second longest in program history. They have also won 16 consecutive conference matches dating back to last season, which is a school record.
The Silverswords will put both streaks on the line Sunday when they host in-state rival the University of Hawai’i Hilo at McCabe Gymnasium which opens their season-ending eight-match home stand. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
