The Hawai’i Pacific University Sharks men’s and women’s basketball teams battled the Biola Eagles last night at The Shark Tank.
HPU Men fall to Biola 90-82
The Sharks Men (3-8, 0-5) kept the game close until the Eagles (10-2, 4-1) pulled away in the second half.
The Sharks were led by senior Rodney Hounshell who had 22 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Sophomore Jakob Kimura had 14 points with 7 boards.
The Sharks shot 46 percent on 24-of-52 shooting from the floor, including shooting 41 percent on 9-of-22 shots from the 3-point arc.
They were 71 percent from the free throw line making 25-of-35. The Sharks hauled in 33 rebounds and had 12 turnovers.
Biola shot 49 percent on 32-of-66 shooting from the field, shooting 39 percent on 5-of-13 shooting from the 3 point range.
The Eagles shot 73 percent from the foul line hitting 16-of-22. The Eagles pulled down 35 rebounds and turned the ball over 7 times.
Women Women fall to Biola 72-65
Hawai’i Pacific University Women jumped out to an early lead in last nights basketball game against Biola. The sharks couldn’t pull it of as the Eagles came back in the second half to win 72-65.
It was a PacWest Conference game played yesterday at The Shark Tank.
The Sharks (4-7, 1-3) held an early lead with a 12-0 run to start the game. The Eagles (7-4, 3-2) rallied with a 11-0 run to start the third quarter to take the lead.
It was HPU’s first game since December 16th.
Junior Tava Rowell led the Sharks with 24 points, while junior Ella Berge added 13 points. HOU graduate student Julia Razo of Woodland just missed a double-double with 24 points and 9 rebounds.
The Sharks shot 38 percent from the floor hitting 21-of-56 from the floor, this included shooting 35 percent on 9-of-26 makes from the 3-point arc. The Shark connected on 67 percent on 14-of-21 attempts from the foul line.
The Eagles shot 38 percent from the floor on 24-of-63, while making 8-of-28 or 29 percent from 3 point range. The Eagles hit 80 percent hitting 16-of-20 from the free throw stripe.
Biola outrebounded HPU 44-36. The Eagles had 10 turnovers to the Sharks 9.
The HPU is scheduled to play again Thursday, at The Shark Tank, January 13th. Both teams will host Dominican (Calif.). The women tipoff at 4:30 p.m and the men tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
