A Baldwin High School senior, Liana Ferreira, was the state runner up in 2020 at 97 lbs. She won all three matches by pin Saturday, at the MIL, round robin meet at King Kekaulike.
These were her first matches since the 2020 state tournament, which which took place 720 days ago. The COVID-19 pandemic decimated last season, and she missed the first half of this season because she was suffering from COVID.
She stated, She feels stronger than before (COVID). She did a lot of training when she was off from practice.
Liana Ferreira has also been in Ashland, Oregon for the past week, not only working out, but signing a scholarship agreement with Southern Oregon University.
Her final state meet, before she enters college wrestling, is scheduled for March 4-5 at Blaisdell Arena.
Ferreira stated, She knows she will win it. She has worked too hard. I will win it my last year.
Fans and parents were not allowed to enter the King Kekaulike gym Saturday due to three mats being used. The bleachers on one side of King Kekaulike were closed because of this. For teams to gather, the bleachers were open on the other side.
